Cheltenham - Home of the Gold Cup, and gold star properties

Say "Cheltenham" to most people, and the first thing they think of is the Cheltenham Gold Cup - British steeplechasing's flagship race. But there is much more to Cheltenham (also known as Cheltenham Spa) than horses, jockeys and bookies! The available property to buy or rent is excellent.

Property in Cheltenham (to buy or rent) covers the entire accommodation spectrum. From small but cosy one-bedroom flats, to semis and detached family houses, smart townhouses, and elegant mansions... There are property options in the city to suit all preferences and budgets.

In the nearby villages of Withington, Prestbury, Northleach, and Bredon, delightful thatched cottages can sometimes be found available to buy. However, you'll have to be quick as these are generally snapped up as soon as they come onto the market.

Unlike at many other British locations, house prices in Cheltenham tend to rise the further you venture from the centre of what is one of this country's most architecturally beautiful Regency towns. This is because the views of the Cotswolds' countryside are often simply priceless.

Getting there

Cheltenham is a convenient base for touring the Cotswolds. However, its location 100 miles from London means commuters to the capital rarely consider the town as an ideal place in which to live. That said, car, coach and rail links are good. And, for jetsetters, Gloucester airport is the nearest to the town.

Things to do in Cheltenham

Cheltenham is often referred to as "the garden town of England". Its colourful and wonderfully fragrant Long Gardens have won numerous awards, including the much-coveted Prix Europeen d'Excellence. As well as garden walks, visitors to the town can enjoy theatre, cinema, and art gallery and museum trips.

Finally, with Worcester, Hereford, Stroud, Cirencester, and Montpellier (not the French town!) all being within such easy reach of Cheltenham, taking a quick peak at the available properties to buy there will hardly feel like an inconvenience. In fact, if you find your dream home, it will surely be petrol money well spent!
