Raise a glass to historic Chesterfield

Chesterfield is a former mining town, with a cycling and walking route known as the "Five Pits Trail" now linking some of the former collieries and most of the sites having now blended into the surrounding countryside. The town centre in Chesterfield has kept most of its pre-war layout and character, and the town is home to one of Britain's largest open-air markets, with stalls lining up alongside the historic and fabled Market Hall. Tradition is important in Chesterfield and each generation is keen to preserve the town's character. A narrow collection of medieval streets in the middle of the town make up an area known as "The Shambles", where you can find on of Britain's oldest pubs; The Royal Oak. A wonderful selection of interesting independent shops can be found in The Shambles, a popular destination for an enjoyable afternoon's ramble.

Efficient transport links

Junction 21 of the M1 links Chesterfield to routes south, and to the north the A619. The railway station has excellent cross-country and inter-city links, and there is a good bus service. East Midlands, Doncaster, Leeds and Manchester Airport are all within two hours travel by road. Chesterfield is an interesting, lively town with a rich heritage and welcoming residents. It is ideally situated for routes north and south of the Midlands and is a popular residential town because of its location, amenities, and good choice of housing.
