Crawley is rich in community spirit

This old market town was the centre of ironworking in Roman times and is now a popular residential area for commuting to the capital city. Officially designated a New Town in 1947, it lies in the Weald between the North and the South Downs. Property in Crawley is mainly modern, due to the population explosion in the 60s, and comprises terraced, semi detached and detached dwellings. Interestingly, unlike many purpose-built New Town areas, Crawley has no residential tower blocks. Each of its 13 neighbourhoods, situated around the core of the old market town, has a shopping parade, community centre, church, school and recreational open space, specifically designed to the original architect's wishes. This gives Crawley quite a unique feel and sets it apart from other commuter towns.

Enjoy an upwardly mobile lifestyle in Crawley

Gatwick Airport opened on the edge of the town in the 1940s and paved the way for prosperity throughout the area. Shopping centres in Crawley are being expanded and improved regularly, and the town has become a retail centre for the surrounding areas. There is a wealth of good primary, junior and secondary schools in and around the area, and further education is provided by Central Sussex College. The night life is excellent, with many clubs and music venues welcoming residents and visitors, and numerous restaurants and wine bars scattered across the town.

Location, location, location

The London-Brighton Turnpike was a boon to the area and good rail and bus links make Crawley very attractive to commuters. Gatwick Airport, along with the other London Airports, is within easy reach. Crawley has long been a popular residential area, due to its history and proximity both to London and to the coastal town of Brighton. It is an ideal place to look for affordable property, with something to suit everyone on the market.
