Devon - Where homes with stunning coastal views abound

As South West England's largest county, Devon can offer new home seekers just about everything. OK, it might not be a London commuter's ideal location, but the county has so much to offer that thousands of people from across Britain (and indeed overseas) look to relocate there every year. There is property in Devon to suit all tastes and budgets, and commercial properties too. Individual and contemporary homes, traditional Devon cottages, small but smart and cosy flats, two and three-bedroom luxury apartments, appealing semis and detached family homes... Take your pick. So many flats, houses, bungalows and cottages in Devon have dazzling coastal views. For this reason, elevated positions in coastal towns and cities are always sought after by developers. But inland, the homes available can be of a higher specification inside, so don't dismiss a new non-coastal abode.

Getting there

Main motorway links to Devon are via the M74, M4, M5 and M6. Great Western's fast intercity express trains arrive in Plymouth (and other Devon towns and cities) from London Paddington frequently throughout the day. There are regular connecting services from Exeter Airport to London Gatwick.

Shopping in Devon

Great shopping options in Devon are easy to discover. In the county's cities and towns, all the big name high street stores can be found. There are covered shopping centres, shopping villages and arcades, complemented by exclusive boutiques and local independent shops. You'll find it equally easy when seeking out great places to go to eat and drink. A ploughman's lunch in a rustic, traditional Devon country pub can be an absolute delight. Hearty English fare can be found in the many family-friendly restaurants there. And exquisite cuisine is available in the main cities.

Finally...

Perhaps the only downside of moving to Devon is the climate. Like the rest of the South West (Cornwall, Somerset, etc.), North and South Devon can see a lot of rain. The gorgeous summers there compensate up to a point, of course, but do think about climatic factors when considering your possible relocation.
