Despite being only 19 miles north of central London, the county town of Hertford has a distinctly "country" feel to it. Historic and charming due to its colourful heritage, and protected by a rolling Green Belt, it has long been a desirable place to live.
Property in Hertford ranges from modern houses, in every conceivable style, to Victorian cottages full of character. Luxury apartments in brand new purpose-built developments are also popular.
The River Lee runs through the town, and the Lee Navigation Canal running south of Hertford provides many good walks for outdoor lovers.
The heart of the town is situated around Salisbury Square and there are numerous good shops of every description. Unlike most other towns, there is no shopping mall, but this merely adds to the town's unique olde worlde charm.
There are numerous good schools in Hertford - private and state - at primary and secondary level. The town attracts people from nearby villages and the north London suburbs due to the large number of quality restaurants and pubs it has to offer.
Two railway stations provide regular services to London. The journey takes around 48 minutes, making it ideal for commuters. The A414 main road bypasses the town centre and there is a good bus service. For air travellers, Stansted and Luton Airports are within easy reach of the town.
For a taste of country living not far from the capital, Hertford is very hard to beat; hence its growing popularity with people looking to put down roots. Its unique charm and excellent location are a winning combination with buyers.
