Horsham - a pleasant town with a family focus

Located on the upper reaches of the River Arun in the heart of the Weald, the market town of Horsham in West Sussex has grown up around the Carfax, an open square and meeting point of four roads.

It's a town which has expanded steadily over the years, especially since the building of an inner and outer town bypass.

Property in Horsham includes more period residences than are generally found in a town of this size, from thatched cottages to Georgian town houses. There is also some modern housing, as well as a number of smaller, older properties. In the main, homes tend to be geared towards families.

Property values in the south east of England tend to be higher than average for the UK, and house prices in Horsham reflect this.

Excellent connections

Horsham is at the junction of three routes: the A24, from London and Dorking to Worthing, the A264/A29 from Crawley to Chichester, and the A281 Guildford to Brighton road.

There are regular rail services to London Victoria and London Bridge, while Littlehaven and Christ's Hospital train stations are also in the area. London, Brighton and Crawley are all within commuting distance, and Gatwick airport is just 12 miles away.

Great local schools

With three secondary schools in the area, Horsham is also home to the College of Richard Collyer, founded in 1532, and Christ's Hospital, established 20 years later.

There are plenty of other community facilities, from the 24 hectares of open space in Horsham Park to the Pavilions in the Park leisure centre. The Capitol venue includes a cinema, theatre, studio and gallery, while the town also has a modernised library.

At the south end of the central area of the Causeway sits St Mary's parish church, the town's oldest building. Originally Norman, it has been rebuilt and restored over the years.

There are also all the shops you'd want in a town of this size, with household names sitting alongside independent retailers. And the local economy is thriving.

Great for families and offering a high standard of living with excellent transport connections, Horsham is ideal for anyone looking for a smaller, well-cared for town with good schools and local amenities.
