Ipswich - East England's liveliest historic town

Ipswich in Suffolk is located on the estuary of the River Orwell. The town manages to strike a wonderful balance between being modern and forward-thinking, while still being steeped in history. The area offers an abundance of ancient sites that ooze Suffolk heritage, and traditional culture is to be found at every turn.

Getting there

Although Ipswich is not exactly an "ideal London commute", it is none-the-less easy to reach by road, rail and sea. Major trunk roads leading to the town are the A12 from London and the South, and the A14 from the Midlands and the North. Trains from London Liverpool Street reach Ipswich in just over an hour.

There is always a large choice of property in Ipswich to buy or rent, and a selection of styles and sizes which includes detached and semi-detached family houses, smart townhouses, grandiose mansions (these are usually on the outskirts) and modern flats (one, two or three beds, penthouses...).

Wining and dining in Ipswich

A tasty meal or simply a relaxing drink can be enjoyed on the historic quayside while admiring the colourful moored yachts and cruisers. As well as plenty of eateries, the town has traditional and modern pubs and bars, as well as clubs for people looking to dance to all the latest beats.

Great shopping in Ipswich is also easy to find, with exclusive boutiques and local independents well-established in the town. There are also two modern shopping centres - TowerRamparts and The Buttermarket - plus a mixture of high street stores on the 'golden mile' of Tavern Street and Westgate Street.

House prices in Ipswich range from the huge and hefty to the modest and manageable! The closer you get to the developed quayside, the more you'll pay, as this part of town is regarded as an "exclusive area". In town and on the outskirts of Ipswich, prices can be considerably lower.
