Manchester city centre - the ultimate urban experience!

In the early 1990s, Manchester pioneered city centre living. Being in its urban heart, it gives you the chance to experience, at close quarters, one of Britain's most exciting and cosmopolitan cities, with incredible nightlife, fascinating museums, inspiring architecture and friendly people.

Whether art, culture, style, music, fashion or restaurants are your thing, you'll find it all here in Manchester's business and commercial hub. What's more, you'll be able to walk everywhere, or use the buses and trams to get around the city

In recent decades, central Manchester has been transformed into a vibrant, diverse place full of smart new buildings, with a distinctly European flavour - a place that can hold its own against Barcelona and Dusseldorf.

Comfortable pads in Manchester city centre

Property in Manchester city centre is more plentiful, affordable and spacious than you probably realised, with every style and type of flat on offer and lots of brand new builds with contemporary fittings available.

Accommodation in the centre is geared towards the predominantly single population, and that means apartments and lofts rather than houses.

Choose your area

The trendy Northern Quarter, between Piccadilly and Ancoats, is Manchester's creative hub, and is home to designers, creative agencies, art galleries, quirky shops and an increasing number of restaurants, bars and residential developments. Look out for the flower and fashion markets which can also be found here.

The area's unique character and charm make it a modern and inspirational setting in which to work and play.

It's also where much of Manchester's legendary nightlife, and many music venues are based. The 1990s club scene may have changed, but the city still has a buzzing after-hours scene.

Around Manchester Cathedral, the Millennium Quarter - incorporating Shambles Square, Exchange Square and Cathedral Gardens - has been extensively redeveloped, making another potentially very attractive base.

Large-scale redevelopment has taken place in Spinningfield, to the west of the city centre. Castlefield in the southwest is another area to try, and in the east of Chinatown.

The "Conference Quarter" near GMEX, Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Convention Centre is full of offices, smart bars and accommodation.

Piccadilly, with the city centre's largest public square and most important transport interchange, runs east from the end of Market Street to the beginning of London Road.

Spending time in and around Manchester

For shopping, the Trafford and Arndale centres and Deansgate provide some of the UK's top retail hotspots.

When you need to get out of the city, road and rail links are impeccable. For breathing space, try somewhere like 650-acre Heaton Park, just north of the city centre.

One thing is for sure - from the Royal Exchange Theatre to the Lowry Gallery to the MEN Arena to the string of museums and art exhibitions to the hustle and bustle of Market Street, there is so much to enjoy in Manchester city centre that you won't be in any rush to leave this dynamic hub.
