A trip down the ages in Newbury

Visiting the town of Newbury in Berkshire is like strolling through England's rich heritage as you take in the many beautifully preserved 17th century buildings to be found there.

Property in Newbury is a charming mix of old and new residences, including spacious 1950s semi-detached homes with large, south-facing gardens, spacious terraced houses, traditional semis and unique executive dwellings.

Newbury is perhaps best known for its world-renowned racecourse and for being the former home of the USAF air base at Greenham Common, where anti-nuclear peace campaigners set up home in the 1980s. During this time, the town was rarely out of the news headlines.

The Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Kennet run through the centre of the town, adding to the charm and appeal of this lovely place.

Newbury is on line to a great future

The town is home to several large industries, such as mobile phone giants Vodafone, pharmaceutical companies and several hi-tech businesses, making it an economic success story.

It is surrounded on three sides by the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, popular with walkers, cyclists and families.

The town comes alive for two weeks in May each year with The Newbury Spring Festival which features musicians performing jazz, classical and opera, along with family events of every description.

Transport links are second to none

Situated nearly halfway between London and Bath, Newbury has two railway stations, both of which lie on the Reading to Plymouth line. It is ideally placed for all main motorway routes and airports and has a good local bus and coach service.

Newbury is a long-established residential haven for anyone looking to take life at their own pace, and the wide variety of properties on offer makes this a very desirable place to consider setting up home.
