Something for everyone in wonderfully uncrowded Shropshire

Shropshire in the West Midlands could almost be described as England's "secret county". Why? Because the people and happenings there seem to receive relatively little press or media attention. Shropshire just seems to quietly get on with life, tucked away as it is in the far west of the country.

But there is certainly plenty to do and see in the wonderfully uncrowded Shropshire towns of Shrewsbury, Telford, Ludlow, Oswestry, Market Drayton, and Bridgnorth. And what also makes the county so special is the warmth of the locals who are always glad to welcome new neighbours from far and wide.

An array of property types

The range of property in Shropshire covers much more than stone cottages, converted barns, granaries and farmhouses. Modern, luxury houses and flats (with high-specification throughout) can also be found at appealing prices in the county, as well as traditional semis and detached family homes, and more.

Charming and unique character cottages in pleasant rural locations are regularly available to buy, as are exceptionally spacious family abodes (many with stone kitchen floors, Aga cookers etc.) in the countryside, while in the town centres you can find some of the Midlands' best contemporary homes.

Getting there

Shropshire connects to the M6 and motorway network via the M54. The A49, A5 and A53 all make the county easily accessible. London is about three hours away (by car), Manchester an hour's drive away, and Birmingham 40 minutes' drive. Manchester and Birmingham airports best serve Shropshire.

Education in Shropshire

Although the county cannot boast an abundance of universities offering Higher Education (Wolverhampton University in Telford being the main contender), there are some excellent adult education colleges, state primary and secondary schools, as well as a range of private schools.

Good shopping options across Shropshire are easy to discover. In the county's biggest towns all the top name high street stores can be found. There are also covered shopping centres, shopping villages and arcades, complemented by exclusive boutiques and local independent shops.

Once in the county it would be wise not to limit your property hunt to the main towns, as in rural Shropshire you can find some absolute gems. Transport links to towns are good, so if you do decide to opt for a new home in the country, you won't feel disconnected - just peaceful, relaxed and perfectly content.
