Watford - where north meets south!

Hertfordshire's biggest town is situated in the county's south, between the M25 and the M1, just 20 minutes from London Euston. The navigable River Gade runs just to the west, the River Colne to the east, and the Grand Union Canal is nearby.

Compact and prosperous, and with a strong local economy, Watford boasts outstanding transport links, excellent modern shopping facilities and a host of other local amenities.

Property in Watford includes period homes, duplex maisonettes in the Georgian style, and Victorian terraces. There are also Edwardian properties, 1950s terraces and new purpose-built developments of luxury apartments.

Shopping is dominated by the Harlequin Centre in the centre of town, packed with dozens of stores, including every major name you can think of, plus a few you probably can't! Right next to the centre, in Charter Place, is Watford Market, which is open for business three times a week.

Lively after hours

The Parade is the heart of the town's after-hours scene, with its restaurants, bars, comedy clubs and other nightspots. Theatres include the Palace and the Colosseum, both of which put on a wide variety of shows. Just north of the centre, Woodside Leisure Park has a multi-screen cinema and bowling.

And, of course, this town is well-known for its popular football club, Watford FC.

Learn all about the history of the town at Watford Museum, or relax in Cassiobury Park to the west of the town, where there are pleasant walks and golf to be enjoyed.

Superb travel links

Watford is close to the M25 ringing London and to the M1 connecting the capital with the Midlands and the north, providing excellent road access.

For train travellers, the town is served by the West Coast main line, linking London Euston with the Midlands, the North West and Scotland. There are also suburban and regional routes, and a shuttle service to St Albans, along with direct connections to East Croydon.

London Underground serves Watford through its metropolitan line. More than 20km of cycle direct cycle routes across the borough avoid busy roads, and there are good bus services, run by a variety of operators.

Choice of schooling

There are six linked pairs of infant schools and junior schools in the area, and over a dozen primary schools, two of them Roman Catholic.

For secondary schools, there are partially selective schools, non-selective schools including two Roman Catholic ones, and Bushey Meads School, which chooses 10% of its intake for technological ability, with a comprehensive intake for the rest of the student body.

Watford offers convenience, breathing space and a great quality of life. Best of all, it's near enough to London to commute comfortably, yet far enough away to escape the city completely.
