Windsor is England's crowning glory

Windsor is an affluent suburban town belonging to the Royal Borough of Windsor, situated less than 30 miles from central London. It is widely known as the site of Windsor Castle, one of the residences of the British Royal Family.

Windsor and the surrounding areas are home to some of the most expensive and sought after homes and residences in the United Kingdom. But it's not just high-end properties that are available: new flats, detached houses, Edwardian terraced dwellings and Victorian cottages are equally popular in this area.

House prices in Windsor are - understandably - high, but given its unique combination of riverside environment, excellent modern amenities and fascinating heritage, most buyers know that their budget will have to stretch that bit further.

Old and new Windsor

The area of Windsor is steeped in history, prior to the modern day Windsor (which has been known as "New Windsor" for some time now) the village of Old Windsor located south of Windsor was the "Original" Windsor for some 300 years; in the past, Windsor was formally referred to as New Windsor to distinguish between the two.
The town is situated 21 miles west of Charing Cross, and it lies immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with Eton, home of the famous public school. Stylish cafes, shops and restaurants are in abundance, and messing about on the River Thames is a great way to spend the weekend.

A tale of two stations

There are two railway stations locally - Windsor Central and Windsor Eton Riverside, with some trains running directly into London and others requiring a change at Slough. The town is close to junction 6 of the M4 and is a mere 15 minutes' drive from Heathrow Airport.
Windsor is undoubtedly one of the most attractive places to stay in England. Its Royal heritage, many historic buildings and beautiful surroundings put it at the top of the priority list for prospective buyers in Berkshire - provided their budget is flexible.
