LOCATION

The property is situated approximately 3 miles north of Burnley town centre and is best approached by turning right on to Halifax Road at the top of Harle Syke. Proceed along Halifax Road turning right after approximately half a mile onto an unadopted private lane as indicated on the attached plan.

DESCRIPTION

Extwistle Hall stands high on Extwistle Moor between Haggate and Worsthorne village. The Hall is built of coursed sandstone to 3 sides of a Courtyard and is now a ruin. It was built in the 16th Century by the Parker family who lived there for some two hundred years. The house was re-modelled in the late 18th Century. The principal front faces north and the fall of the ground southwards allowing for a basement makes the house one of four stories on that side, where the chief feature is the massive chimney of the hall which projects 5ft and has a width of 15 ft. The house consists of a rectangular block 34 ft by 27 ft 6 in externally and a north west wing 19 ft by 14 ft 6 in with a lower two storey building with plain gabled roofs on the east end. In front of the house is a small courtyard 43 ft long by 33 ft in width, partly enclosed on the west side by the north west wing, and on the east by the lower buildings.

ACCOMMODATION

The property has not been inspected internally as it is unsafe to do so, however we understand that the accommodation is arranged over various levels comprising on the ground floor of a number of reception rooms, the first floor is arranged over two different levels with additional second floor accommodation.

The property has stood vacant for at least twenty years and has deteriorated considerably. Complete refurbishment is required.
