Historically the building was used as the Assembly Rooms for the Town for many years and as a Pre-WW1 armoury and drill station for C Squadron Montgomeryshire Yeomanry and A Company, 7th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers and later as a base for the Home Guard in the 1930’s, as well as Girl Guide meetings and Brass Band practice. It was later used as the Sorting Office for the Post Office (which until recently was next door). The building was converted into a family home in the 1980's.
