The Ship Inn, dating back to 1567, was previously a Customs House however became a licensed hostelry in 1754. A detached property of traditional stone construction, laid over ground and first floor levels and under a pitched and slate roof. In 2004 a single story extension to the rear was added to accommodate the new kitchen and in 2008 the first floor level was converted to create a function facility.

Location

The Ship Inn, is located within Irvine which is approximately 33 miles from Glasgow city centre via the M8, M77 and A77 via the A71 at Hurlford. Ayr, Troon and Kilmarnock are all within easy commuting distance and the south west of the country can be reached via the M77. Irvine is a 'new' town and has a wide selection of retail parks as well as schooling, sporting and recreational facilities.

Internal Details

This characterful property has maintained many of its original features with open beamed ceilings and stonework. Any alterations have been carried out in keeping with these features none more so than the ornate ceiling sketches which are prominent on the ceilings of the bar area. All areas have been designed and furnished in the style of a traditional hostelry.

Ground Floor

The bar, snug and dining room are all located on the ground floor and can be accessed directly from the main entrance vestibule.

The traditional bar (50) has an island bar positioned centrally. The original stone walls are prevalent in this area as is the ornate stone effect flooring to the front of the bar. To the rear of the island bar is an additional seating area with fitted carpet throughout and to the side is a cosy area with part timber floor and perimeter seating.

The snug (24) has been created from the original kitchen. This is an additional dining/drinking area designed and furnished in keeping with the original bar area. it has become a designated dog friendly area which has been well received with dog owners.
Dining room (70) can be accessed from the bar area and is the main restaurant for the establishment. This area has a much softer feel to it from the bar with fitted carpeting throughout and a selection of fitted wall seating with freestanding tables and chairs.

Additionally there is a sizeable Prep area as well as the extensive kitchen which was added in 2004. This is a fully equipped kitchen and well designed.

Other Floors

Function room (60), located on the upper level and accessed either directly from outside or from the main dining room. This area was previously used for storage however has been redeveloped to offer a private function room with its own private bar and servery together with ladies and gents WCs and prep kitchen. In addition there is an electric disabled lift giving access from the ground floor.
