An extensive former public house with car park and grounds that is a Grade II Listed Building incorporating a former station masters house, ticket office and platform at Heighington Station, next to the level crossing where the first ever locomotive to haul a passenger train was hoisted on to the track in 1825. The building extends to a variety of internal areas over multiple levels however we have not obtained internal access and therefore are unable to comment further. Location - The subject property is located within a prominent and highly visible setting at the junction of Heighington Lane (B6444) and Station Road on the railway crossing in a mainly production and employment location south of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. Newton Aycliffe is a town in County Durham, England. Founded in 1947 under the New Towns Act of 1946, the town sits about five miles to the north of Darlington and ten miles to the south of the city of Durham. It is the oldest new town in the north of England, and together with the bordering Aycliffe Village (to the south) and the north part of School Aycliffe (to the west), forms the civil parish of Great Aycliffe. The population of the town at the time of the 2011 census was 26,633.

Listing - The subject property is a Grade II Listed Building registered as Locomotion One Public House and east platform (previously listed as Heighington Railway Station). Circa 1835 with later 19th century additions to rear. The building is of dressed sandstone with a main roof of large Welsh slates and brick chimneys with a cobble platform. The small cobbled area, in front of station is said to be part of the original 1825 platform. This building was an early station and booking office for the Stockton and Darlington Railway and occupies the site where, in 1825, George Stephenson's "Locomotion No. 1" engine was put on the rails for the inauguration of the Stockton and Darlington service.
