Full description

Fantastic opportunity to acquire a well-established and consistently profitable wholesale artisan bakery business set in a beautiful shore side setting in the village of Walls on the Westside of mainland Shetland.

Operating from modern, purpose-built premises overlooking the voe of Vaila Sound, the business represents a great opportunity for an enthusiastic new owner to build on the success of the current business with potential for further development.

Included is a studio flat ideal for owner's or employee accommodation.

Coupled with its very special location in the Shetland Islands, the most northerly part of the United Kingdom, the business represents a great lifestyle opportunity for anyone seeking to run their own business in a very unique environment.

The Business
Waas Bakery Limited is a long-established wholesale bakery business trading from modern, purpose-built premises in the village of Walls. Established in 1983, originally in a converted church, its success led to new purpose-built premises being constructed in 1993 where the business is now based.

The main business is the production and sale of a wide range of both freshly baked and longer shelf-life products to a range of independent retail outlets throughout Shetland, to the local Co-op supermarket in Lerwick, as well as numerous cafes, restaurants and service stations, the expanding and varied product line including 'real' bread (sourdough etc.), focaccia rolls, French pastries, cakes & fancies, oatcakes & biscuits.

The business was taken over by Bruce Gilardi in 2016 who immediately set about building on the previous success of the business by embarking on an ambitious programme of rebranding and the introduction of new products with the aim of creating an artisan bakery producing high quality products using the best of local ingredients where possible. Following his untimely death earlier this year, the family have reluctantly decided to pass this great opportunity on.

Although consistently profitable there is considerable scope for an enthusiastic new owner with vision to carry on developing the business and build on its well-established reputation and new branding, in particular the potential for exporting products out of Shetland.
