Ashington is a town in Northumberland with a resident population of around 27,000 people. The town lies approximately 15 miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne. The A189 "Spine Road" to the east of the town runs south via Blyth to Newcastle and the A19 and A1 Trunk roads.
