The Manor House incorporates a medieval hall, possibly of the 13th century and there is also a large Tithe Barn. The church (1581) of St Peter is a stone building in the perpendicular style and rebuilt in 1846. The village is mainly 17th and 18th century houses and cottages built from the yellow limestone from around the area. There is also a village pub.

The market towns of Sturminster Newton (approx. 1 mile) and Blandford (approx 10 miles) are within easy reach. The larger towns of Poole, Wimborne, Sherborne and Shaftesbury are easily accessible. There are trains to London (Waterloo) from Gillingham taking 2 hours and cross Channel ferries from Poole and Weymouth.
