The property is a villa, built in the 1800s, and beautifully restored in 2000; a fine example of Hydra’s unique and traditional architecture.

The old villa was originally built in the 1800s for a wealthy sea captain, and in early 2000 it was beautifully restored and it is now one of the most comfortable homes on the island. It covers a total built area of 220 sq m and can be sold with or without the adjacent plot of land. It is surrounded by a shaded garden and courtyard on the ground floor, with mature trees, pergola, planters, and an open dining area. Outside are also two small outhouses which can be used as utility and storage rooms. The property is on two levels, with a total of four bedrooms, sleeping eight people, and three bathrooms. The entrance to the property is through large double doors, which open into the courtyard. To the left of this hall is a large lobby which leads to a shower and toilet, large storage cupboards and two twin bedded rooms. To the back of the hall, up a couple of marble steps, one reaches a lovely unique double room built partly into the whitewashed rock, and with a large en suite marble bathroom. A wooden staircase leads to the upper floor which houses the kitchen, large lounge and dining area and also at the far end, the master bedroom, with en suite shower room. All floors on this floor are wooden, and, as in the rest of the house, the feature ceilings are high beamed and wooden. The lounge has a central working fireplace and there is a good sized dinning area on one end. The kitchen is well equipped with all modern facilities, wooden built in cupboards , marble floor and large double marble sink, and a breakfast area. Both the lounge and kitchen have doors leading onto the large sunny veranda which has panoramic views over Hydra, and offers open air dining and sunbathing during the day.

Just 37 nautical miles from Athens in the Argo-Saronic Gulf, the long, narrow island of Hydra (or Ydra) is both cosmopolitan and tranquil. Donkeys and boats are the only form of transport as laws prohibit automobiles (except for a few small garbage trucks), mopeds, and even bicycles. Due to the island’s status as a national historic monument, strict building laws also regulate development, protecting Hydra’s traditional architectural style and enhancing its old-world charm. Access from Athens is 1 ½ hours by hydrofoil or 2 ½ hours by car to Metohi and then a small boat ride (Water Bus Service). The property is suitably located on a mere 300 m from the seafront and is a short gentle walk up from the main port.
