The historic hilltop town of Monte San Giovanni Campano is most famous as being the birthplace of Saint Thomas Aquinas, who was actually imprisoned in his family's castle there in 1240 for two years because his noble family didn't want him to join the church.

The old Castle of Monte San Giovanni is a medieval fortress built in the 11th century and still stands today. Today it's privately owned, much of the castle is used as a resaurant and function center, but visits are allowed.

The traveling time to Roma Fiumicino is approx. 1.5 hours, and Ciampino airport is approx. 1 hour.
