Here is a little about Daya Vieja and its history: Daya Vieja is located on the left bank of the Segura River, in the heart of the Vega Baja del Segura. Together with Daya Nueva , Daya Vieja belonged to the municipality of Orihuela since the Reconquest carried out by the Crown of Castile in the middle of the 13th century. In 1791 the owners of Daya Nueva and Daya Vieja, jointly appointed, decided to segregate themselves from the city of Orihuela and form a single municipality called Las Dayas. There was an earthquake in 1829 which destroyed almost the entire town, which was rebuilt between 1855 and 1857. In 1871, the then owner of Daya Vieja, taking refuge in the Alfonsina jurisdiction, decided to form his own municipality, separating himself from the rest of Las Dayas. The family owner of the town sold the land of Daya Vieja in 1928 for 1,500,000 pesetas to the brothers García Palmer and García Castillo who parcelled and sold them to small owners.
