Offering two busy tourist seasons, Bareges is a popular base for snowshoeing, ski touring and downhill skiing in the Winter. Situated in the Grand Tourmalet ski resort - the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees with over 100km of pistes.

Bareges is a commune of the Pyrenees National Park and gateway to the Neouvielle Nature Reserve - a protected granitic massif with dozens of beautiful lakes. It is a short drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Gavarnie and Troumouse, where hiking trails cross the Spanish border into the Ordesa and Pineta canyons. The GR10 long distance trail passes right through Bareges, and there are several beautiful walks departing direct from the village.

For cycling enthusiasts, Bareges is situated on the route to the Col du Tourmalet, one of the most famous mountain road passes in Europe and featuring in the Tour de France almost every year.Numerous other mountain sports are available on the doorstep, including paragliding, canyoning, rock-climbing, mountain biking, via ferrata, tree-top parks, zip-lining, bungee jumping and more!Bareges is also renowned for its thermal baths; great for relaxing after a strenuous day in the mountains, or even for a three week "thermal cure".
