Royal Villa on Lake Trasimeno for Sale

Villa on Lake Trasimeno for Sale. Superb Liberty Villa dating back to the late 1800's is located on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, in Umbria. Within walking distance of amenities, the villa has access to the lake, and enjoys a quiet position with wonderful views across the water. The property is well connected to the other attractions of the area including Perugia, Chiusi, Arezzo and Cortona.

Constructed by the first king of Italy, King Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia, the villa provides 965 sqm of living space on 4 storeys with 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, numerous living rooms and 200 sqm of fantastic terraces, including one on the roof and one on the tower that would make a fabulous bedroom. The annex of 120 sqm is home to 2 further bedrooms and a bathroom. The villa is surrounded by 6.2 hectares of land with a strip of land along the lake, 100 olive trees and woodland. Other outside areas include a veranda on the ground floor, a balcony on the first floor and a small balcony to the rear. There is a second house, used for staff, which needs some restoration.

History:

The villa was built by King Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia (the first King of the united Italy in 1861 and prior to that, King of Sardinia), probably for his illegitimate son.

During the Second World War, when the allies arrived at the Trasimene Line (aka the Albert Line) to the south of Lake Trasimeno, the villa was used as a base by the British Army. Prior to the battles of 15 - 30 June 1944, the German troops searched the entire area of the lake for Jews. 30 Jews were found and deported temporarily to Isola Maggiore and held in Castello Guglielmi awaiting deportation to the concentration camps. When the allies arrived, with the help of the Parish Priest of Isola Maggiore, Don Ottavio Posta, a group of soldiers was sent out to free the prisoners. The fisherman of Sant'Arcangelo also helped in the mission, using their small fishing boats, reaching the island in the middle of the night to free them. The mission was successful and the Jews then stayed as guests at this villa.

About Casa Tuscany, Cambridge

Casa Tuscany is driven by love and desire – the love of beautiful Italian property, and the desire to make our clients happy.
One of the most important words in our vocabulary is ‘no’. Saying no to properties which don’t meet the standards we are looking for, or offer good value.
We are always happy to have a chat to find out exactly what you are looking for. Feel free to call us for a chat on the phone or arrange to come in to the office if you want to discuss your requirements in more detail. We love finding out what makes you tick and finding the perfect match for you.
Casa Tuscany was founded by Karen Roos in 2002. Karen's life-long love of Italy started when she spent many happy holidays there as a child, staying often with Italian family friends, enjoying the sun, food, friendship, language and lifestyle. Her love of the country and its language led her to study Italian and Business (and French, but that's a bit rusty now..) at university, then subsequently to buy, restore and develop properties in Italy. She set up Casa Tuscany in early 2002, with the aim of helping others fulfil the same dream, and it has grown steadily over the years. Karen is fluent in Italian and has in the past worked as a translator.
Casa Tuscany today specialises in the sale of property in Tuscany and other parts of Italy - mainly Umbria and Liguria - and aims to bring you the best and widest possible selection of properties on the market.
Relationships are key, and all our agents in Italy are qualified, fully licensed, experienced and trusted.

We have featured in the Financial Times, Daily Mail, Italy Magazine, Italia magazine, Sunday Business Post (Ireland), Living for Retirement magazine, Manchester Evening News, to name but a few. Karen has also written articles for 'Italy' magazine. We have also featured in television programmes 'A Place in the Sun', 'Grand Designs', 'Fantasy Homes by the Sea', 'Escape to the Continent' 'I Want that House', 'House Hunters in the Sun' among others.
