When we first saw White Hart House, we weren’t really expecting to be interested in buying it. We were curious and had nothing to lose. So, we turned up one Saturday, stepped two metres inside the front door and fell in love with it. We could see it needed a lot doing to it, but what couldn’t be changed about it was very special. The interior spaces and whole atmosphere spoke to us of welcome, generosity and conviviality. It was an old coaching inn, after all, and you could feel it.

Since then, we have lavished it with love, care and investment and it has repaid us many times over, by being such a beautiful and comfortable home to live in. Everything you need has its place. Everywhere you want to spend time in is a joy to look at and restful to be in. Hospitality is made easy; the house never feels full, even when whole families - and more - come to stay. It has warmth and cosiness in the front rooms, with fires and candlelight in winter and you barely notice the road outside. In the summer, there is a spacious airiness, with French Windows open to the generous patio and garden in full leaf, offering more quiet spaces for ourselves and guests, to walk and talk or lose themselves in quiet reflection.

Something we love most about this house - and to enjoy it to the full you’d probably need to share this feeling – is being at the very heart of a village community at the front, whilst having an ‘oasis’ of tranquillity at the back, touching the Churchyard, the enclosed and lovely gardens giving you a peace interrupted occasionally by the sound of ‘leather on willow’ and shouts of ‘Howzat!’ on summer days. You might be tempted to unlock the garden door in the wall and wander out to enjoy the scene. Pucklechurch is a very friendly, down-to-earth, family-orientated village, well worth belonging and contributing to.

We have been proud ‘custodians’ of this property. It does have a ‘wow’ factor, from what guests and visitors say and is clearly held in esteem by the village whose centre it presides over. We’ve lived in it longer than anywhere else in our lives and it will be a wrench to leave. But it was here long before we were and we’ve always known it will be long after we’re gone. It’s like living in a piece of history.
