Garden and grounds

The gardens wrap around Heatherfield. A path leads to the front door with beds of mature shrubs around the boundary. To the rear of the house there is a wide, covered porch with decking, that extends the house significantly providing a wonderful outdoor living space. A pulley for drying clothes is suspended from the ceiling of the porch. The rear garden, a haven for birds, is mainly laid to grass with a small pond to the side of the house. The garden borders to a further open grass area and out to the fields beyond. To the side of the house there is a substantial, integral shed with a half-glazed door.

Heatherfield is situated in the centre of the Field of Dreams with the Park amenities all within a few minutes' walk.

Heatherfield is part of the Eco Village project linked to the Findhorn Foundation aiming to produce a low overall carbon footprint. A small wind farm provides a portion of the electricity needs for the community. The many programmes of the Foundation have been suspended for now but generally include meditation offerings at each of the four sanctuaries, three of which are within a 3-minute walk.   The sky is big, the air is clean and the weather unusually sunny for the North of Scotland. The beach and ocean are a 20-minute walk through the woods and the dunes, or a short bike ride along the road through Findhorn Village.  Transport links by air and rail are close by. Car share schemes are available locally, and the flat terrain is ideal for cycling. Two organic veg box schemes are in operation and “The Phoenix” local shop stocks a wide range of organic produce. There is a café and some small restaurants on site as well as the more widely known Universal Hall and Moray Art Centre that are hoping to resume live events and exhibitions soon.
