HISTORY This fascinating property is believed to date back to the late 18th century with its namesake deriving from it being the former Gardener's Cottage on the historic Bayon's Manor Estate.
Bayon's Manor was a renowned Victorian stately home that was built on the grounds and believed also around the actual former manor house between 1836 - 1842. Constructed in a grand, elaborate Gothic style by Charles Tennyson D'Eyncourt - uncle of Sir Alfred Tennyson, the imposing walled estate consisted of approximately 5-6 acres, surrounded by an impressive moat, folly and drawbridge and the parkland was stocked with deer and horned sheep.
The Manor was sadly lost when it was demolished in 1965 due to its irreparable deterioration however many local properties have incorporated reclaimed stone from the old manor since with additions/extensions/reclamation projects enabling this part of history to still live on beyond the historic photographs, prints and memories. The large old stone gate pillars can also still be viewed on the Kirmond Top Caistor High Street which were the gates for a former drive entrance into the Manor grounds.
