Built in 1797 by John Nash for Admiral Gell, Llanwysg House was designed to make the most of the astonishing views over the River Usk towards Table Mountain and Pen Cerrig-calch beyond. Admiral Gell was a close friend of Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton who are believed to have visited in 1802.

The detached Coach House dates to a similar period as the house and is located at the entrance to the main house. It retains a number of the original features including exposed timbers and stonewalls.

This area of the country is renowned for both its outstanding natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The River Usk flows below Crickhowell and the Monmouthshire and Breconshire canal is close by. Brecon and Abergavenny have excellent theatres and cinemas, and there are exceptional walks and rides through The Black Mountains and the nearby Brecon Beacons.
