Dating back to the 12th-century and rebuilt in a neo-Gothic style in the 19th-century, this former presbytery was converted into cosy holiday accommodation on the ground floor and first floor by the current owner. Now a private house, the new owner can choose whether to use the bedroom suites for paying guests again or whether to use the whole house as a marvellous family home.

The presbytery is located in the riverside town of Salies-de-Béarn, which is famous for its healing thermal spas which attract visitors all year round. The town is halfway between the lively cities of Bayonne and Pau and about two hours away from Bordeaux and Toulouse. If you fancy a day skiing, several Pyrénées ski resorts and the Spanish border are 80 - 90 minutes away to the south - or if a day on the beach in Biarritz or St-Jean-de-Luz is more your style, the Atlantic coastal resorts are about 50 minutes away to the west. St-Jean-Pied-de-Port and pretty Basque farming villages are just 20 minutes away.

With holiday suites already created, you could welcome Bed and Breakfast guests straight away and offer evening meals, buffet lunches, packed lunch hampers… Or you might prefer to transform the building into a stunning boutique hotel, perhaps with a restaurant on the ground floor.

Offering activity holidays could also be an option. Salies-de-Béarn is situated between two major rivers – the Gave de Pau to the north and the Gave d’Oloron to the south. You can enjoy picnics overlooking the Gave d’Oloron at Sauveterre-de-Béarn, or walk down to the river to go swimming or white-water rafting. If you enjoy walking, the Chemin de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle is easily accessible from several nearby villages as it winds south to St-Jean-Pied-de-Port.

The town has a good choice of supermarkets, bars and several good restaurants, along with a twice-weekly market, a golf club, a tennis court and many cultural events throughout the year. For a much bigger choice of shops and amenities, the cities of Pau and Bayonne are not far away. The area has many excellent schools, including an International School in Pau, which uses the UK curriculum. There are universities at Pau and Bayonne.
