Property description

In the owners words:

'This house has been a wonderful family home, we fell in love with the space and possibilities it offered. We have raised our three children here, accommodated elderly parents when needed and fostered numerous children. The location has proved perfect being close to the town, schools and public transport.'

'Chapel House' is quite possibly the most deceiving property I have had the pleasure of selling, it is easy to see why the accommodation has proven to be so versatile as described by the current owners.
With a past history linked to the Basset family (please see below) this detached property will be a great home for those seeking spacious living accommodation, adaptable to suit most needs, we have no hesitation in recommending an internal inspection.

Located on the popular Tehidy Road, set back from the pavement by a lawned front garden that is part screened by shrubs and bushes, with a driveway leading to the attached garage, a pathway to the front entrance porch that in turn leads to the rear courtyard.

Leading from the entrance porch are double glazed doors that open to the entrance hall, stairs rise from here to the first floor and there are doors to the downstairs living rooms, four rooms, bathroom and kitchen breakfast room. These obviously offer potential to be utilised in various forms, certainly to adapt to care for relatives or 'teenage rooms'.
Two of the rooms are used currently as double bedrooms, one front facing the other overlooking the enclosed courtyard. A further room is a family snug, a place to tuck yourselves away after the day is through. The last is a great space, a sitting room/dining room, generous in proportions with a window overlooking the front gardens, a boarded fireplace and currently a place where the piano resides!

The bathroom is a white three piece suite, tiled walls and a frosted window to the rear aspect.

The kitchen is another great room, enough space for a breakfast table and a comprehensive range of shaker style units below timber, partly curved, worksurfaces. Glass fronted display unit and three quarter height storage, one of which hides the gas boiler for central heating and hot water. A window and door look over the enclosed courtyard to the rear of the property. This is a real family space.

A door leads to the side of the property where there is a utility room, tiled floor and storage, plumbing for washer and access door to the garage. Again some thought could be given to creating space for a relative if so desired (subject to permissions)

First floor is where this home could offer further space for older children, currently there is a study area of a reasonable proportion, bookshelves and window to the front. From here is a boarded doorway to the bedroom with an open door leading to a sitting area connected to the bedroom (both with sloping ceiling and skylight windows). Quite clearly this could be turned into two bedrooms if required but currently gives some private space for the family's daughter.

The master bedroom, with a range of wardrobes and skylight window, has access to the eaves storage, a further space yet to be explored should it be required.

Lastly a shower room, the owners are in the process of installing a shower to the far end of the room but it currently offers a wc and basin, sloping ceiling with skylight window.

This detached home sits in a plot where the majority of the gardens are located to the front. Lawned areas, flower beds, shrubs and bushes describe the garden best however, stone walling provides the boundary where with a little thought this could become a private space. The pathway leads to the side of the property and continues to the rear where there is a 'suntrap' courtyard garden with storage shed.

Driveway parking for vehicles leads to the garage, up and over door and mains power.

The owner provided some interesting history relating to the property's past......

Our house stands on what was once a part of the Basset estate and the adjoining road Gustavus Road, comes from Gustavus Lambert Basset, the squire of Tehidy (1834-1888).

When in use as a 'chapel' the building came under the control of Camborne Wesley Church, although not originally built as a chapel, the Basset estate schedules drawn up in 1909, show a lease of the premises at a rent of 18 shillings and 9 pence per year, being described in 1878 as a 'Ragged School'.

The 'Ragged School' movement began in 1844 and worked in industrial areas amongst poor and destitute children teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Before 1870 there was no universal education as an automatic right and education was provided privately or in one of the Church of England National Schools.
It is believed that our house being used as a Ragged School may originally date from around 1849.
