Description
Description
Ferry House is a pretty detached country home which is thought to date from around 1740. It is believed to be the oldest house in Portincaple and was originally called Portincaple House, the traditional stone built cottage was substantially extended by the present owners about 20 years ago to create the fine family home it is today.
Sitting in a plot around 0.8 acres, the property is traditional stone built with a pitched slated roof.
Entered from the front, the entrance porch opens into the reception hallway. To the left is the elegant drawing room, an attractive reception room with windows to the front and side, and a wood burning stove. To the right is the formal dining room with characterful fireplace and charming coal burner. Off the dining room is a useful downstairs single bedroom or study with window to the rear. The family kitchen has a door to the side (which is used as the everyday access), along with floor and wall units, a central island, room for dining and a cream four oven AGA. Off the kitchen is the utility room and WC. From the kitchen is the conservatory, which is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the stunning views in all weathers. A shower room completes the ground floor accommodation.
A staircase in the hallway leads to the first floor where there are three double bedrooms, one presently used as a home office. Of particular note is the 25’ principal bedroom with picture window over the garden and the water beyond. From this bedroom is a further staircase down to the ground floor.
The gardens and grounds at Ferry House are splendid, mainly laid to lawn with many bushes, trees and shrubs. There are also a number of outbuildings including the recent addition of a fantastic timber-built garden room / cabin, known fondly as ‘The Shack’ which has light and power.
