Description

As soon as the owners saw the house on Fortescue Drive they were immediately impressed. To the front of the gated property there was a spacious front garden and driveway, offering parking for up to six cars, and to the rear there was a large garden. “We also thought it was a very attractive-looking house,” one of them recalls. “It was a unique property, with a very broad and appealing frontage.” His wife adds: “We then stepped inside to find it had a lovely, large reception hall and plenty of living space that was ideal for our large family. It offered us great privacy and was in an excellent location for good schools, the village centre and Milton Keynes itself. It was everything we were looking for.”

A UNIQUE HOME

Dating back to around 1989, the detached property was built on former farmland. Originally a self-build project, it has an individual design. Since the current owners moved in 23 years ago, they have carried out upgrading work, including refurbishing the kitchen, replacing both bathrooms and decorating throughout. They have also landscaped the front and rear gardens. The owners have also added a garden studio. This is currently a pottery studio but it could have a range of alternative uses It is heated and has an electrical supply and wifi – it would make a superb home office or hobby room.”

FAMILY LIVING

When the couple moved in, their four children were teenagers and there was always plenty of space for everyone. The children could to use the family room, which has space for two good-sized sofas, leads into the kitchen and opens on to the terrace. The kitchen, which is also generous, has light units and a table for up to six people to sit down to eat. From here there is a door to the utility room, which also has external access. You can enjoy having these separate spaces, but if you wanted to open them all up to create one large, modern kitchen, breakfast and living area, then (subject to the relevant planning permissions) that could be a possibility.

FLEXIBLE LAYOUT

Also downstairs is a large sitting room, together with a dining room, study and ground-floor cloakroom. The sitting room is probably the biggest room in the house and is a lovely place for entertaining. There is a living flame, coal-burning-style stove in the large, attractive inglenook fireplace in there, which gives it a wonderful ambience in the winter. In the summer, you can open the doors to the garden. The dining room, which has double doors into the sitting room, is superb for Sunday lunches and Christmas dinners, while the study is an excellent place for working from home. Either of these rooms could have an alternative use as a playroom if required. The space and layout here is perfect for a family and could work in lots of different ways.

GENEROUS BEDROOMS

All five double bedrooms are situated on the first floor of the house. The master bedroom is a lovely room, with lots of storage and windows on three sides. It has leafy views to the back, side and front. Its en suite bathroom is also large, with a bath, shower and double sinks. All four other bedrooms are also double in size; three of these feature good storage. New owners wishing to add another en suite bath or shower room would find they have ample space. The current owners have enjoyed having so much room upstairs. They have used one of the bedrooms as a craft room given the space and versatility on offer.

SUPERB SHENLEY CHURCH END

Life at Shenley Church End has also been everything the owners hoped it would be. They have been able to head off on long cycle rides or country walks. The children were able to walk to their secondary school and a good primary is also within easy reach. It takes just 20 minutes to walk to the station, with its fast trains into London Euston, and to reach central Milton Keynes.
