Erw Goed is a cul-de-sac of well maintained bungalows with outstanding views down over Mold and on to Moel Famau, their elevated position ensuring that even should the current blight of building wherever possible continue their views will remain uninterrupted. If it has a downside it is that the demands of a power-hungry modern society have necessitated an electricity pylon in the middle of the view but on the other hand, are you ready to give up your internet yet? So this is the price we pay and when thought of like that, it becomes the lesser of two evils.

We approach the home down an attractively block paved drive that runs beside the sloping lawn before continuing past the home and providing additional off road parking space. There is a small inner hallway that houses a cupboard containing the modern circuit breaker board, easily accessible and more importantly, simple to find by candlelight!

To our right is a door into the large lounge, a bright and welcoming room with a modern feel thanks to the high quality grey laminate flooring and where the natural focal point is provided by the light wood fire surround and the living flame type fire it contains. This probably harks back to the days when we were all living in caves and hiding from sabre toothed tigers but a real fire, (or what appears to be one) gives so much more than mere warmth, it gives a feeling of peace and serenity and with this, you don't even have to clean out the grate in the morning which must be a result. At the rear of the room there is the remains of an arch, suggesting that it has been extended through into what was possibly once a separate dining room, though I am unaware of the home's recent history.

From the main body of the lounge there is a door into the kitchen where we find units fitted to all four walls and which contain all the expected technological conveniences designed to make our lives easier. Not simpler you understand, but easier... The back door opens onto the drive to the side of the home, meaning that as the rain lashes down in stair rods you can get the car right up to the door, making it child's play to unload the shopping without it being turned into a soggy mush because the last thing you want is to have to do battle with Adsa - again.

Another door towards the back of the lounge reveals the bathroom. This is fully tiled throughout in a neutral colour which I always think is a good thing. Anything that stops somewhere as necessary as a bathroom becoming subject to the vagaries of fashion is to be applauded and function should take precedent over form. Make it look nice by all means but it should always be functional and here, this has been achieved with a white suite comprising of a modern hand basin with storage beneath, lavatory and walk-in glass shower cubicle where the hot water is drawn straight from the combi boiler, providing constant temperature and pressure. If anything is guaranteed to take the shine off your morning it is having the shower unexpectedly running cold as, covered in soap you start the second verse of 'Hello Dolly'.

Adjacent to here is the first of the bedrooms. This has the benefit of a large set of fitted wardrobes that cleverly maximise their effectiveness by sitting in the corner and utilising two walls. The added advantage of this arrangement is to remove the need for free standing furniture and giving the room a far more spacious feeling. And the feeling of space is further accentuated by the patio style doors opening out onto, surprisingly enough, the patio. This makes for a rather special feeling bedroom and one where the summer months would be a delight as from the patio we are treated to the view down across the fields towards Mold and, as the sun sets over Moel Famau, all seems well with the world.

Next door to here is the second bedroom which is of a similar size and similarly equipped with a full wall of fitted wardrobes. It also has an identical set of patio doors, preventing any inter-room jealousies as to who enjoys the best view... Outside, the semicircular patio is surrounded by a neat lawn with a sturdy metal storage shed to one side and a waist-high wooden fence beyond which the manicured lawn gives way to rougher grass, possibly having been left as a wild flower meadow. With bees and butterflies in their current state of decline it would be nice to think so.

All in all, this is a home suitable for the retirement many of us dream about, although the property does have scope to extend to either the rear or side elevation making it attractive to all age groups. It offers peace and quiet while not being at all remote and is in the sort of condition that guarantees years of trouble free living. You have shops within walking distance, Mold is minutes away by car with all its opportunities for leisure and relaxation, the beauty of the Clwydian range is on your doorstep and everything likely to give you problems now or in the future has been dealt with; all you need to do is enjoy living here.
