There is a primary school in the nearby village of Spennithorne with secondary schools at Leyburn and Bedale. The attractive village of Finghall is also close by and is home to the well regarded Queens Head Public House.

There are excellent railway links from Northallerton (15 miles), and junction 51 of the A1(M) is easily accessible at Leeming Bar with a choice of regional airports also close by with Newcastle, Leeds/Bradford and Durham Tees valley.
