Kelsey Lodge

is Grade II listed for its special architectural and historical interest and was originally the lodge to Kelsey Manor. This Late Victorian Tudor Revival Lodge was built in 1864 and shows aspects of the Tudor period (1485 to 1603) much admired by the Victorians.

The half-timbered decorative brick infill panels and carved bargeboards on three elevations add to the charm of the property along with three gables including the protruding front gable with carved porch beneath, which serves as the main entrance. The bay window to the sitting room has beautiful leaded lights with stained glass panes and after 156 years is still to be admired for the exceptional craftsmanship.

Kelsey Lodge is a unique property of architectural merit in Beckenham. A small front garden with picket fencing leads to the main entrance door, under the covered porch, opening to a lobby with doors on either side to the two reception rooms having good ceiling height of 2.44m/8ft.

Ground Floor Overview

The sitting room enjoys the morning sunshine with large stained glass bay window having wood panelling beneath and additional window to front. The cast-iron fireplace with slate hearth has a carved wooden surround. The dining room also features double aspect windows and a large brick fireplace with wood mantle surround.

The kitchen has a vaulted ceiling and fitted cream Shaker style units providing plenty of work surface and base cupboards with a distinct utility area nearest the door. The kitchen is arranged off the rear hall along with the bathroom, having slate flooring throughout. The back door gives access to the gravel driveway with wooden double gates to the 39m/140ft garden which sides and backs onto Kelsey Park.

First Floor Overview

The bright bedrooms have beamed vaulted ceilings giving excellent headroom (2.74m/9ft) and large windows give a lovely sense of space. Clothes can be stored in the handmade antique pine wardrobes and the en-suite shower room to bedroom 1 has a window to the rear. Both bedrooms and the study have wood flooring. The study, at the top of the stairs above the porch, is a lovely bright room with southerly aspect facing the Park Langley parade of shops by the Chinese Garage.
