Property description

Tenure: Freehold

A picturesque Grade II listed cottage of great charm and character with separate barn/annexe.

The Old Plough House is a delightful late seventeenth century cottage with Victorian addition comprising a main house and a separate barn/annexe. The main house was at one time a Public House. The annexe was used as a Traphouse, housing horse and trap when the property was a farmhouse. The original timber frame features have been retained with a pretty white wash brick noggin finish to the cottage and extensive period beams.

To complement the ground floor is a large shower room. To the first floor there are four characterful bedrooms. The principal bedroom is a stunning room with beautiful beams. To complement is a well-appointed principal bathroom.

The ‘Traphouse’ or annexe offers further well-presented accommodation comprising a large lounge/dining room/kitchen with shower room. To the first floor is a large bedroom/studio with exposed beams.

A step leads into the main house and attractive kitchen/breakfast room by Mark Wilkinson with a lovely range of wall and floor cupboard units, AGA, Butler sink, dresser unit and Canadian pine floorboards. Double doors open to the lovely light conservatory/sitting room/dining room, with a fine view of the garden.

The beautiful, beamed drawing room with Inglenook fireplace and large wood burning stove has a door to the study with extensive beams and small wood burning stove. The inner hall leads to a rear glazed vestibule and door to the large shower room.

An inner hall also leads to the dining room fitted with pine floorboards and Victorian cast iron fireplace.

To the first floor is the principal bedroom with a lovely vaulted beamed ceiling with impressive beams. There are three further bedrooms and a large family bathroom.

There is a separate barn/annexe which has been converted to provide further excellent accommodation with a large living/dining/kitchen room with shower room and a fabulous bedroom or studio over. Ideal as a self contained annexe.
Under the main house is a useful cellar.

Grounds in all are about half an acre (0.57 acres from promap) and are a beautiful feature of the property having been planted out by the current owner with many wild flowers. There is a wealth of wild snowdrops, primroses and bluebells, fringed by mature trees and backing onto farmland.

The Old Plough House is situated in a lovely semi-rural location in a lane known locally as “Under the Heavens”.

Its idyllic location overlooks private bluebell woodlands.

The village has a general store/post office, a doctors' surgery, garage and petrol station, along with three pretty country pubs. Excellent schooling, both state and private, is available in the area, with Sarratt and Chipperfield having their own primary schools.

The nearby villages of Chorleywood and Kings Langley have a good range of shops and amenities, whilst Rickmansworth town centre provides more comprehensive facilities, including major stores and supermarkets.

For the commuter there is Chorleywood Station offering both the Metropolitan Line to Baker Street and the City plus the Chiltern Turbo to Marylebone.

Kings Langley station offers a main line to Euston (approximately 23 mins) as well.

Access to the M25 is at junction 18 at Chorleywood or Junction 20 at Kings Langley.
