Property description

Tenure: Leasehold

Westerly facing first floor apartment with views over maintained walled gardens.

Butlers Court is a home with a history. Conceived in 1891 as the prestigious retirement residence of a well-established Beaconsfield gentleman, Arthur Grenfell, with all the style, grandeur and distinction that befitted a man of such means. When he died in 1895 he left the house to his younger brother Francis Grenfell, who added the eastern library wing. He was an Army officer who spent most of his career in South Africa and Egypt rising to the rank of Field Marshall and ultimately being made a baron in 1902-3. Thereafter the house was owned by Francis Reckitt, chairman of Reckitt & Sons /Reckitt & Coleman and subsequently army captain Shirley Sutton Timmis. During World War II Butlers Court became a Red Cross hospital for men of the Free French navy during which time we understand it was visited by Charles DeGaulle. Most latterly prior to the conversion by St James (part of the Berkeley Homes Group) the building was owned by the paper making firm of Wiggins Teape`

Butlers Court is now a prestigious gated development of six units of very high quality which take advantage of some of the wonderful original period features, for example the high ceilings with cornicing and wide staircase in the impressive hall. At the same time care has been taken to ensure the apartments also have stylish contemporary fixtures and fittings appropriate to properties of this calibre. This is one of the two first floor apartments and has two generous balconies, the one off the Family Room faces west so catches wonderful afternoon and evening sunshine and looks down the beautiful walled garden which is available for all the residents. The apartment has its own lockable garage and a parking space to the front of the building.
