Property description

Tenure: Freehold

Beehive Cottage is believed to date back to the early 18th century and historical notes suggest that it was built in 1710 and was one of five thatched houses fronting the Heath. The house is Grade II Listed, considered to be of architectural and historical merit and was renovated and extended by a well-regarded local builder for his daughter about forty years ago. The front of the cottage is the oldest part and is mainly timber framed with rendered elevations under a neat thatched roof and the extension is brick and block work with a rendered finish under a slate roof. There are many period features, including fine exposed timbers, open fireplaces and three staircases to the first floor. The floor plan shows the layout which includes an entrance hall with door to the well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room which has a double Aga and doors to the enclosed garden, a drawing room, dining room with wood burner, study, ground floor shower room and a utility room. On the first floor, there are is a master bedroom with dressing room, two further bedrooms and a family bathroom. A staircase from the entrance hall leads to a guest suite/bedroom 4 with an en suite bathroom.

Outside, a driveway leads to a covered parking area and to a detached garage. The private rear garden approximately 37ft x 35ft and is enclosed and easily maintained, laid to lawn with a terrace and shrub borders. The cottage is south facing with the sun rising and setting through the kitchen, house and garden. The thatch keeps the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Hatfield Heath is a well-regarded sizeable West Essex village which fronts heath land and benefits from a generous range of facilities including shops, Post Office, primary school, pubs, restaurants etc. The larger town of Sawbridgeworth lies 3 miles away and Harlow and Bishops Stortford 6.5 and 5.5 miles respectively. All three have a comprehensive range of social, recreational and educational facilities and mainline stations running regular services to London Liverpool Street. The M11 motorway can be reached to the south at Harlow (J7), and to the north at Bishops Stortford (J8).
