The Old Bakery is a beautiful landmark village house occupying an enviable position in the heart of Denham village. The property, believed to date back to the 15th or 16th century, is thought to be one of the earliest surviving buildings in the village and is a fine example of a Grade II listed residence. The Old Bakery is rich in character and period detail and includes exposed beams, sash windows, fireplaces and wood flooring. The layout is suited to both family living and formal entertaining and features a stunning vaulted drawing room. The property has been sympathetically updated whilst retaining the character and architectural integrity of this wonderful historic home.
A covered entrance porch opens into a reception hall with a staircase to the first floor. An elegant sitting room lies to the front of the house and leads to a fully fitted study/office to the rear, with a door to the garden. Both the dining and family rooms are heavily beamed and full of character with door access to the outside terrace from the dining room. The two rooms are divided by a feature fireplace, with a gas fire, giving a relaxed and cosy feel. Dominating the ground floor is the spectacular drawing room with its vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, together with an impressive period fireplace and log burner. Sash windows on both sides of the room give wonderful garden and village views, and a door gives access to the garden. Nestled in the corner of the house is the breakfast room, with views to the front and side, and which leads into the adjacent kitchen. The kitchen is comprehensively fitted with a range of storage and display units complemented by a stone worktop. Integrated appliances include a double oven with warming drawer, dual fuel hob, American fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. A further reception hall lies off the kitchen, with outside door access to both the driveway and the terrace, with a cloakroom, storage and an alternative staircase to the first floor.
The first floor accommodation is generous and is approached from either of the two staircases, with part of the landing overlooking the vaulted drawing room. A good sized utility room is located at the top of the rear stairs, with storage, a worktop, washing machine and dryer. The principal bedroom is dual aspect, with a delightful village outlook, and a range of fitted wardrobes. The en suite bathroom is beautifully appointed with a shower and freestanding bath. On the other side of the house is a guest suite with lovely garden views, fitted wardrobes, and an en suite bathroom. There are three further bedrooms, one with fitted wardrobes, and served by the family bathroom.
The Old Bakery is accessed through a five bar gate onto a gravelled driveway to one side of the house leading to a parking area for several cars, with both a double and single garage. The attractive garden is wonderfully secluded and mainly laid to lawn with well-maintained beds and borders. A brick shed/outbuilding lies in the corner and provides useful garden storage. Adjoining the rear of the house, a part covered terrace gives an ideal entertaining space. Steps from the terrace lead up to the lawn area and an old water well has been cleverly designed to provide a perfect seating area.
