Property description

Tenure: Freehold

A beautifully restored, stand-alone home near Melton Mowbray, White Lodge has four bedrooms, two reception rooms and home office space, with enormous gardens and outdoor space. With stunning rural surroundings, the property is also conveniently situated for travel and commuter links, with Leicester and Nottingham both just a 20-minute drive away.

White Lodge is a hidden gem within a hidden gem. Located in the little-known Little Belvoir, it is situated at the top of a hill with the most stunning views across the Vale of Belvoir.

Dating back to the early 1900s, White Lodge is thought to be a former gatehouse belonging to Wartnaby Castle and sits on a generous plot, including a well-established gardens, and is surrounded by open countryside. White Lodge is approached by a large driveway providing ample parking space.

Retaining many original features, this property offers the buyer the opportunity to acquire their own, private little haven within the magnificent Vale of Belvoir. Spread over two floors, White Lodge boasts four bedrooms, a large kitchen/diner, further reception rooms, a conservatory, family bathroom, 'boot room' and sufficient room for a home office space, while outside there is a large garage and shed.

Just four years ago, White Lodge underwent extensive refurbishment to transform it into the house that stands here today, boasting an abundance of character and charm as well as providing a spacious, inviting family living area.

White Lodge is full of beauty and intrigue, with oodles of history behind it, and is crying out for someone to fall in love with it the way the current owners did four years ago.

What the current owners say....

We bought the house in 2016 and, it's fair to say, when we first saw it, it definitely had that "wow" factor. We had always wanted to live in Little Belvoir - not many people know about it! - and we knew we had to have it, especially with the amazing views looking over the Vale.

The house needed plenty of work doing, and we went into it knowing it was going to be a big project. It was in the perfect location for us - remote, private and secluded, but without being too far from amenities - and we had a vision. We knew we could remove a wall here and there and really open it up, turning it into the family living area that we wanted it to be. And to have all that outside land as well was also really attractive to us.

In the summer, the house is so light and airy that, when the weather is hot, it stays really cool inside, almost like we've got air conditioning. Yet, in autumn and winter, you can put the fire on downstairs and the whole house is warm and toasty, and you get that lovely autumnal sunshine coming through, especially in the north-facing side of the house. We also get beautiful sunsets all year round. If you get up early enough, you can see the sun rise over the whole of the Vale, and in the evening, you can watch the sun set. It's glorious.

The kitchen/diner is our favourite room, it's such a thriving social area - when we were allowed friends over! The bathroom, too, is very special to us. You've got that lovely little step up to the roll-top bath, the tiling, the colours - it was all designed by us and, even though it was a labour of love, it was worth it.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year in this house. We have a tree in the living room and another in front of the bay window in the kitchen/diner, it's just magical. Spring, too, is not to be missed here. The garden comes to life, we've planted plenty of fruit and veg over the years because it grows so well here, and there are snowdrops everywhere you look, especially in the little spinney at the side of the garden.

We've enjoyed so many good walks since we've been here. You can walk past the castle, out into the farmers' fields - we've been given permission to walk there - up to the top of Broughton Hill, where you can look out over the whole of the Vale and see the bison and deer. It's like surveying your own land! There are 360-degree views up there, it's amazing. You can really lose yourself in miles and miles of countryside.

This is such a cosy, comfortable house to live in. It's ideal for a big family, and there's so much room. You can have plenty of adult space, separate spaces for children, and ample room for entertaining, especially in the kitchen/diner. If you've got a big family, or lots of friends, it's just perfect.

There's so much outside space, too. We've even camped out in the garden during the summer, held parties out there and watched movies on a projector screen in a big tent. You could hold your own festival!

We will miss living here immensely. The walks are second-to-none, and the privacy and seclusion are just heavenly. Having trusted neighbours and friends so close by also affords you the security and peace of mind for children that you just can't get everywhere. We really do live the good life here.
