"The kitchen has always been a real family room; it has been at the hub of whatever has been happening and offers plenty of space for a table and chairs," she says. "It is lovely to sit in there and look out at the garden, where we sometimes see deer." The layout of the house has also been conducive to entertaining. In summer, guests can wander out on to the terrace and down to the garden, in winter it becomes cosy and inviting. "I always host Christmas here, usually for about 20 people," she admits.

SUPERB SUITE

All four bedrooms are situated on the first floor of Brackendale. One guest room has an en suite shower room while two other bedrooms share the family bathroom. "The master bedroom has a dressing room and an en suite shower room and is on its own to one side of the house, which works very well," she explains. Further useful space at the house includes an office which has been created within the garage building. "This could be ideal for someone seeking to work from home," she adds.

GREAT SCOPE

The whole house has recently been refurbished, redecorated and updated. It is now bright, airy and ready to move into. There is still scope for new owners to make their own mark on it, however, she explains. "There is potential to extend this house further should new owners wish to. We have planning permission in place for an extension to the rear of the house: this would allow for the creation of a larger kitchen, as well as a new utility room and cloakroom." Planning permission also exists for a new garage and driveway. "This is such a large plot that subject to the relevant permissions someone might also wish to look into enlarging the house out to the side as well - there is space there for a double storey extension," she observes.

FAMILY LIVING

The owner admits she will miss both the house and its tranquil, leafy location when she moves on. "It is very spacious, yet it manages to be homely as well," she says. "It is a great home and a safe place to bring up a family - my three girls all grew up here and really loved it. There was good space for them to spread out at home and have their friends here, and they were able to walk into the village. There is plenty for children to do in this area, especially now we have a brand new recreation ground and caf? close by." She adds: "This is a unique home and it is well worth seeing to appreciate everything it offers."

The long, leafy garden has a rural or parkland style, with lots of beautiful trees and grass. It offers space for outside dining and entertaining, as well as for children to play. The garden backs on to woodland and as such attracts an abundance of wildlife. There is a detached double garage within the grounds and a gated driveway with off-street parking for a number of cars.

The house itself was truly individual and its setting was ideal - the current owner of recalls exactly what drew her to the home some 16 years ago. "It was in the process of being built," she remembers. "It offered a lot of space and had a layout that was quirky and different. We also liked the fact it was in a very quiet location and yet was just five minutes from the centre of the village and within walking distance of Ascot railway station. It was also close to good schools, such as Charters, and within easy reach of the racecourse to take the children walking or cycling."
