A contemporary masterpiece just 3 miles from the World Heritage city of Bath, occupying a prime village location.

Description

History
The original Bathford House (also known as Rectory House) stood behind what are now high walls, was directly opposite St. Swithins Church. It was built “from new“ by John Tyndale in 1686 a year after the death of Charles II in a style similar to that of the west wing of Dyrham House, though on a smaller scale. It was almost certainly the first large custom-built house in Bathford not to follow the traditional Costwold Vernacular style. Over succeeding generations of the Tyndale family up to 1800 and then the Wiltshires of Shockerwick the house was slightly enlarged, but appears to have been otherwise largely unaltered until Victorian times.

On the 29th of November 1913, as graphically described in the Bath Chronicle, the old Bathford House was destroyed by a fire so fierce that only the walls remained. No one was hurt. In the aftermath and the period that followed, the property changed hands several times. The original stable block (now next door) was converted into the “new” Bathford House.

D’Oro House as it stands today is a stunning, contemporary house that was constructed on the site of the original Bathford House. Having been one of the finest houses in the area for 227 years, just over a century after it was destroyed, another architectural masterpiece crafted in the principle of the golden ratio stands in its place.

Description
D’Oro House is a stunning detached contemporary house constructed in a traditional style to a quite exceptional standard; a masterpiece of modern architecture that is a fusion between contemporary design and classical proportions. Constructed of Bath stone elevations under a slate tiled roof, the property has stunning facades in a Georgian style to both the front and rear elevations. The scale of the building is exceptional and the proportions are superb. The accommodation is arranged over three floors. The entire property commands an exceptionally high level of specification, with all finishes - both decorative and structural - having been executed with flawless taste, considerable style and meticulous attention to detail. D’Oro House exudes grandeur and architectural merit as well as providing excellent accommodation for modern day family living, extravagant entertaining or social events alike.

Upon entering you are immediately struck by the sheer scale of the house. A grand reception hall with double-height ceiling and stone cantilevered staircase welcomes you. There are beautiful stone floors and exquisite ceiling details. A pair of glazed doors open into the drawing room which is of particular note. There is a beautiful bay window overlooking the garden and light floods in. There are mahogany floors and a fine fireplace. Pocket doors lead in to a beautiful dining room, which in turn is open-plan to the magnificent kitchen/breakfast room: a stunning entertaining space.

There are doors that lead from the dining room into the garden flanked by beautifully designed window seats. The kitchen is fitted with a range of bespoke units, enhanced by Italian marble work surfaces and fully integrated with a comprehensive range of Bosch appliances.

Also on the ground floor is a TV room/snug which opens into a study/library. A cloakroom completes the ground floor accommodation.

On the first floor there is a magnificent galleried landing. A luxurious principal bedroom suite extends the entire width of the property. A beautiful bedroom enjoys views from the bay window. Each wing of the house incorporates a beautifully appointed en suite bathroom and dressing room.

Also on the first floor is a guest bedroom with en suite bathroom, a further double bedroom and family bathroom.

On the second floor is a gym/playroom, two further en suite bedrooms and the sitting/family room with kitchen. In addition there is a second floor laundry/utility space. The accommodation at this level is very flexible and could provide separate living accommodation, self-contained from the main house.

Outside
The property is approached via grand wrought iron gates that lead into a generous parking area. There is a detached double garage. To the rear of the property is a raised terrace that overlooks a landscaped garden that is mainly laid to lawn and enjoys a good deal of privacy. In addition there is a secluded rear access.
