Youngsbury is a magnificent Grade II listed Georgian house which occupies a superb South-facing elevated position. It has beautiful views of its wooded parkland down to the River Rib and rolling farmland on the far side of the valley. The Youngsbury estate was originally the manor of the Youngs family and dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The present house was built in the middle of the 18th century with later additions by David Barclay (1979) who employed “Capability” Brown to landscape the park. Brown, however, could only comment that “Nature had done so much that little was wanting but enlarging the river.” This phrase has been immortalised on a plan drawn up at the time that can still be seen in the hall of the main house. The rooms were modernised and other structural alterations made in the 1940’s leaving a most beautifully proportioned house.
