THE STORY
Pulling open the great glass doors from their kitchen, and stepping outside, the owners of Marsh House agree their spectacular, contemporary home appears to be floating in mid-air.
In summer, this area, which flows seamlessly from the kitchen on to the terrace, is magnificent for entertaining, allowing guests to wander in and out - and the house and garden to blend into one.
We wanted to build a wonderful home for entertaining as well as living in, explained the owner. The double-height windows not only allow the light to flood in, making it bright inside, but are also great for barbecues and summer parties when opened up in the warmer weather.
He added: We wanted to really create a real 'wow factor' here and we have done so with features like this and our stunning glass staircase.

SHEER RELAXATION

Marsh House was completed just two years ago and was designed and built to an extremely high specification.
We worked with an architect and explained we were keen on a very contemporary, 'Grand Designs' type of home. It needed to be very low maintenance and to make an immediately impact as soon as you came up the drive, he said.
We wanted the interior to be modern but with a comfortable, homely appeal as well - and we do feel we have achieved that.
Most visitors come in and after about half an hour they say what a calming place it is. This is somewhere that people really enjoy unwinding.
Every window goes from floor to ceiling and even you are sitting inside looking at the snow falling in the winter, it is warm and relaxing inside.

EXQUISITE DESIGN

The interior of Marsh House has a chic, minimal appearance to match the cutting edge building design. Much of the décor is neutral, with great attention given to every last detail.
My wife was responsible for all the interiors. With the bathrooms, we wanted to create that hotel feel that you so enjoy when you are away - all the cabinets were custom-made and we have Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware.
Now when we are away, we just want to come home! he said.
The fabulous kitchen is equally contemporary, with a large U-shaped island and an enormous, eye-catching quartzite work surface.
She designed it so she could be in there cooking while friends were sitting on the sofa or at the table talking to her.

GLORIOUS VIEWS

With five bedrooms in total, there is plenty of room for friends to stay. The four guest bedrooms each have access to a Jack-and-Jill bathroom and feature walk-in wardrobes. There is also a large family bathroom.
The glass staircase goes from the first to the second floor. My office is right at the top of the house and from there I can look out across the fields as I work.
On the ground floor of the house is another space greatly enjoyed by the owners - the cinema room.
It is great to go in there to watch films and leave work behind for a few hours, he observed.

DREAM HOME

Outside, the low maintenance garden has also been designed for pleasure. With artificial grass, the owners have ensured it is perfect for al fresco entertaining without requiring too much attention.
As with the rest of the property, we were really thinking about practicality, he said. Everything here is easy, including the location. I work from home or in London and can be at Witham Station within 15 minutes and then it's just 45 minutes on the train into London.
He added: Leaving here has been a very hard decision to make. It was extremely unusual to find a piece of land like this - in this tranquil area and where we were able to build the house of our dreams.
