The Hall dates from 1678 and was originally built by Henry Jones for a Mr. Randolph Wilkes. Henry Jones had previously worked locally for the Isham family at Lamport Hall and had worked on the restoration of All Saints Church in the centre of Northampton after most of the Church was destroyed by fire in 1675. He is also reputed to have worked for Sir Christopher Wren in the building of St Paulís Cathedral and was involved in the rebuilding of London after the Great Fire of 1666.
The Hall is constructed of local limestone with a Westmorland slate roof and stone mullioned windows with leaded light casements. Approached through stone piers with ball finials, flanked by stone walls, a gravelled drive sweeps through the front garden to a cobbled turning area at the front of the Hall with parking and access to the garaging and stable block.
Entered through oak panelled doubled doors into the entrance vestibule with stone flagged floor, door to the cloakroom with W.C and wash basin and double oak doors to the reception hall. The reception hall is a magnificent room with oak panelled walls, stone mullioned windows, open fireplace with a magnificent oak carved surround and mantelpiece, beamed ceiling and oak strip floor. From here, doors lead to the drawing room, library, study and inner staircase hall.
The drawing room is on the southern side of the reception hall with a large bay window overlooking the garden, paddocks and countryside beyond, decorated plasterwork ceiling, open fireplace with carved oak surround, polished oak board flooring, concealed drinks cupboard and a concealed door leading to a part glazed external door. The library has an oak strip floor, full oak panelling to three walls, ornate plasterwork ceiling, a stone open fireplace with magnificent carved oak surround and mantelpiece, extensive oak book shelving, concealed drinks cupboard, two large stone mullioned windows and a part glazed door to the garden.
The reception hall leads to the inner staircase hall with York flagstone floor, grand solid oak staircase and doors to the kitchen and dining room. The dining room has a large mullioned bay window with seats overlooking the garden with splendid views to the south and east, decorative plasterwork to the ceiling and walls incorporating an over mantel mirror, open fireplace with carved and painted mantelpiece and surround and a door to the kitchen. With a range of base level and wall mounted units with tiled preparation surface, double butler sink, central island with solid wood preparation surface, four oven oil fired Aga, four ring ceramic hob, charcoal grill, extractor fan, electric oven, dishwasher and doors to the inner staircase hall, utility room, laundry room and extensive cellars.
The wonderful oak staircase sweeps up to a galleried landing off which is the principal suite comprising of bedroom with oak panelling, moulded ceiling plasterwork, stone mullioned bay window, fireplace and doors to the dressing room and en suite with bath, washbasin, bidet, separate W.C, walk in wardrobe and door to lining room. The dressing room has an extensive range of built in wardrobes and a washbasin. There are three further guest suites all with en suite bathrooms.
On the second floor there are six further bedrooms and three bathrooms.
