Scallasaig Lodge was built in the late 1800's as a hunting lodge for Scallasaig Estate which lay between Arnisdale and Glen Shiel forest. In addition to the principal house it includes salmon fishing on the Glenmore River and a sporting lease over 1917 acres of the neighbouring estate. EPC rating G
The principal reception rooms include a drawing room and dining room, each with a large bay window and designed for entertaining. There is a smaller sitting room, a study and a spacious farmhouse style kitchen capable of seating 12 around the table and with large walk-in pantries and stores.
There are four good sized bedrooms on the first floor with three separate bath or shower rooms. The attic floor comprises two large, coombed children's bedrooms or playrooms and extensive storage. There is also a bathroom but this is no longer in use.
The garden at Scallasaig provides a beautiful and sheltered setting for the house. The front, south lawn is flanked by rhododendrons and flowering shrubs and is sheltered by mature trees. To the west is a delightful boating pond. Across the lane are two grass parks; one of which includes an old orchard and alongside runs the Glenmore River.
Trout and Salmon fishing in the Glenmore River is included. The catch records show a 10 year average of 6 salmon and grilse and 7 sea trout. In addition to the salmon fishing, Scallasaig includes a lease over about 1917 acres (775 ha) for the whole shooting and sporting rights. This includes fishing for brown trout in a number of hill lochs as well as deer stalking.
Glenelg is one of the prettiest coastal villages on the western seaboard, with a population of around 90 inhabitants supplemented in summer by eager holiday makers taking advantage of the many gorgeous beaches and sheltered coves or taking the privately operated ferry across to Skye. Nearby is Sandaig where Gavin Maxwell wrote his classic story of Edal the otter, in Ring of Bright Water.
The village has an excellent local shop, a primary school, village hall, medical centre and post office but is perhaps best known for the Glenelg Inn which is a magnet for locals and visitors throughout the year.
Kyle of Lochalsh is about 25 miles away where there is a full range of shops and a supermarket.
