4 bedroom semi-detached house for sale

Copperfields, Kemsing, SEVENOAKS, Kent

Property Description

Full description

Tenure: Freehold

This outstanding example of a Mid Century Modern home was designed by the renowned architects Fry, Drew & Partners in 1964. The house has four bedrooms, a large, light reception room, a good-sized garden and an integral garage. It is located in Kemsing, an attractive village that lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the town of Sevenoaks, just twenty miles from central London.

Accommodation at the house includes four bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first floor. The master bedroom is approximately 5m x 5m in size and features a number of fitted cupboards. Downstairs there is a main reception room with wide windows overlooking the garden at one end and an open fire at the other. A kitchen leads onto dining room and downstairs WC. The original interior finishes of exposed London Stock brick and timber boarding are still in place throughout the house. There is a lawned garden at the front of the house, as well as ample space for off-street parking. At the rear is level garden, largely lawned, with flower borders. The current owners have added a timber-framed summer house that sits at the rear of the garden.

The house forms part of a collection of houses designed by Fry, Drew & Partners in 1964. Edwin Maxwell Fry (1899 1987) and Dame Jane Drew (1911 1996) were two of the most important figures in 20th century British architecture, with many of the schemes that they worked on having been subsequently listed by English Heritage (although the houses at Kemsing are not currently listed). Fry worked alongside Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius and is widely acknowledged as being one of the key figures in introducing Modernism to the UK.

Kemsing is an historic Kent village that lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the North Downs. There are a small number of shops in the village as well as a primary school, library and doctors surgery. The larger town of Sevenoaks is approximately four miles away and provides train services to London in under 30 minutes as well as a broad range of shops, restaurants and other services. There are good number of highly-rated schools, both state and private, in the Sevenoaks area.
