Accommodation History

Stoneycross Cottage began its existence as two former farm-workers cottages which were gifted to Stonyhurst College in the inter-war period and converted for use as a chapel; the stone cross still present, emerging as it does from the roof. The current owners acquired the property in 1986 and set about the task of converting it into the lovely home we see today. More recently they embarked on another building project in the form of a garage with workshop incorporating a w.c. and an office in the roof space with separate access via an external staircase. The format much like a modern day coach house presents various uses, subject of course to any necessary planning permission as required. Off-road parking for a vehicle is provided on the Indian stone paved drive. This extends into the garden areas which features a pond with limestone rockery and a most interesting slate water feature. The rear garden area abuts open farmland with lovely distant aspects; in fact the views from the property to both front and rear are exceptional.

Entering via the porch you are first greeted by a most welcoming dining kitchen featuring painted wood cupboard fronts with granite counters that incorporate a Franke under-counter 1 bowl sink unit with mixer tap, there is a marble island unit to congregate around which allows for informal family dining. The dining room has dual aspect windows and features the old chapel door with its wrought iron latch and bolts. There is a cast iron multi-fuel stove within an old stone chimney piece, beamed ceiling and stained glass door to the hall. The spacious lounge has an oak floor with a stone chimney piece and a charming open grate fire. French doors open to a conservatory which enjoys views across farmland. There is an internal hall with a cloaks cupboard and from the hall a break-staircase with spindled balustrade ascends to the first floor where some of the stonework has been exposed to great aesthetic effect. There is a delft rack and roof purlin with a part sloping ceiling.

The master bedroom has built-in wardrobes, lovely views, exposed stone wall and roof purlin. Bedroom 2 and 3 are both doubles, the smaller of the two with a three piece en-suite shower room consisting of a shower cubicle, low suite w.c. and pedestal washbasin, towel radiator, ceramic tiled floor and part ceramic tiled walls. A fourth bedroom is a most ample single with built-in wardrobes. The spacious house bathroom comprises a Jacuzzi bath with jets, a Laufen dual flush w.c. and a stylish washbasin in a vanity unit. The walls are part tiled and there is a ladder radiator. A deceptively spacious home full of interest and character.
