Full description

This recently built home has three storeys, is three thousand square feet and enjoys elevated views of open countryside and offers high specification throughout. The impressive hall with Iroko hardwood staircase extends to the second floor which is dedicated to the master bedroom suite. The modern open plan living is seen in the kitchen/family room which has a wood burning stove and views of the garden. There are four further double bedrooms and a large family bathroom, all with solid oak latch doors. The plot is approximately one third of an acre, and includes ample parking space.

Angela and her husband Kerry bought The Old Red Lodge when it was a derelict building, virtually falling down around them. "My husband had built properties before and we wanted to use all that experience to build our own home," says Angela. "We fell in the love with the area because it is so rural and peaceful, Kerry grew up here and he always knew he wanted to settle in the area," continues Angela.

During the First World War, The Old Red Lodge was run as a pub, The Old Red Lion. "We liked that we were buying a piece of history but putting our own stamp on it," says Angela. "Although it is to a large degree a new-build, of course we built it with a traditional, barn type character. The Old Red Lodge has a mansard roof, floor to roof windows and solid oak doors and flooring," continues Angela. "It has the lovely feeling of a charming period home but with the efficiency of a new-build."

With three floors, The Old Red Lodge offers plenty of space as a family home. "Unfortunately, with our children having moved out it is too big for Kerry and I now," says Angela. "We have the third floor to ourselves and it is extremely spacious. It could even be divided further to make more bedrooms, if you require them," she continues. "The third floor is our relaxing space, as we planned all of the children's bedrooms to be on another level."

"Our kitchen is definitely the hub of our home," adds Angela. "It is also the only place my dogs are allowed within the house. The country styling of the kitchen fits perfectly with the barn character of the house and the huge island, which fits 12 people, means all of the family are welcome on the weekends. We celebrated our first Christmas in The Old Red Lodge by having 25 guests over for dinner and everyone mingled in the kitchen, it was a wonderful, memorable event."

Surrounded by fields, The Old Red Lodge seems worlds away in its tranquil setting. "Although the garden is not landscaped, we levelled the grounds out and it would make a lovely project for the next owners," says Angela. "Kerry often fishes in the river in front of the house, which is a complete luxury. There is also a lovely riverside walk that leads you to a fantastic pub with home-cooked food, The George."

The Old Red Lodge is the perfect home for a family who desire space, beautifully crafted accommodation and a wealth of countryside to enjoy. "It is a shame to have the house so empty with all of our children moved out. The Old Red Lodge needs a young family to fill the rooms," concludes Angela.
