A Grade II listed late Georgian villa with a pretty garden situated a short walk from the sea and town centre, with stunning views of the Jurassic coast over the rooftops of the old centre of Lyme Regis. Built in 1824 as one of only five late Georgian villas to be built in the town.
The property is situated close to the old centre of the town and has an elevated position with uninterrupted views across its pretty garden towards Golden Cap and the Jurassic coastline as far as Portland. The house was home to the renowned glass engraver Sir Laurence Whistler and still contains many mementoes of his time including a substantial 1950s extension, fitted bookcases in his former workroom and engraved window panes. The accommodation on the ground floor includes a welcoming entrance hall and a large sitting/dining room, which was formerly two rooms each with a fireplace and pair of French windows opening out on to the south-facing veranda. Off the hall are the kitchen/breakfast room, the purpose built north facing studio and the cloakroom/utility room. Also off the hall is the self-contained bed/sitting room, which has an en-suite wet room and access to an enclosed section of the veranda. On the first floor off the broad galleried landing are the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom and four further double bedrooms, two of which have en-suite shower rooms and are currently used for a B&B business. Off a short half landing is the family shower room.
The house is approached via a shared driveway with parking off the drive in a 2-car tandem garage. The garden lies on two sides of the house. Running along the south facing wall of the house is a veranda overlooking the circular lawn fringed by richly planted herbaceous borders and two ponds, with woodland behind.
